A simple soap recipe that has a laundry list of benefits for your skin.
Turmeric is well known for its beautiful color and culinary uses.
Did you know this bright yellow rhizome isn’t just a pretty spice, though? It can also do wonders for your complexion.
I love that, once ground into a powder, it’s very easy to make into useful household products such as Turmeric Soap!

Reaping the Benefits of Turmeric
You’ve probably heard of (or maybe used) turmeric supplements for digestion, joint pain, mood adjustment, and allergies (source).
The application of turmeric for skin ailments is probably lesser known (at least it was for me, until recently).
But just as the curcumin that turmeric contains can positively benefit your stomach issues or arthritis- it’s also the active component that can give your skin a healthy glow.
So what can it do for your skin, exactly? Turmeric has been known to help:
- Puffiness and dullness (anti-inflammatory effect)
- Rejuvenation (due to antioxidants)
- Skin healing (promotes faster healing of wounds and scars)
- Ezcema and psoriasis (may reduce symptoms)

In a nutshell, if you have some of these inflammation-related skin issues, acne scarring or simply want a healthier glow- turmeric might be a plant-based solution to try.
How to Make Turmeric Soap
One of my favorite soap-making methods uses a glycerin melt and pour soap base.
It’s one of the simplest ways to create a homemade soap with a nice, smooth texture. It gives the soap almost a translucent quality.

For this recipe, you can get about 3 bars of soap using this recipe, although that will depend on the type and shape of silicone soap mold you use.
You will start by melting the glycerin soap base in a double boiler or microwave.
The turmeric powder goes in next, and you’ll want to stir this very well until combined.
Essential oils are added last, once the mixture is removed from the heat.
Of course, these are optional but give your soap a pleasant scent. Certain essential oils can also further benefit your skin such as: tea tree, lavender, lemon, seabuckthorn oil, frankincense, and many others.
And that’s really all there is to it! Your melt-and-pour mixture will go directly into the silicone mold of your choice, and it’s ready once hardened.
