Homemade Digestive Gummies with Ginger and Fennel

These gummies are simple to make and can help calm digestive woes.

When you or your kids are dealing with a tummy trouble, it’s often hard to know where to start.

Will it be a dreaded stomach bug? Usually, that becomes clear in a few hours.

Beyond those viral illnesses, though, are those pesky digestive issues that nearly everyone has at some point.

One thing we can do to help these ongoing issues is to eat probiotic-rich foods.

In this digestive gummy recipe, you can combine some digestive-friendly beef gelatin with a few simple herbs in a form that makes it easy and convenient to take any time.

Why DIY digestive aids, though?

We’ve taken a lot of supplements and store-bought remedies through the years, and one thing I’ve learned:

You don’t always get what you pay for.

There are some reputable brands out there, and there are many, many others that are questionable in the quality and purity of their ingredients.

There’s nothing worse than wasting money on products that are overpriced or don’t deliver what they advertise.

This is why it’s a great idea to try homemade remedies.

You can know exactly what’s in them, and you can adjust them to your specific needs and preferences.

When you start keeping (or growing) bulk herbs and a few basic supplies on hand, you will also save money over time with DIY home remedies.

Why we love digestive gummies

Gummies have become a hugely popular vitamin and supplement form.

My kids will take nearly anything in a gummy form.

And let’s be real: even we adults prefer gummies, whenever possible.

When you or your kids have a stomach ache or uncomfortable bloating, it’s just easy to reach for these homemade chewables.

In this recipe, you have beef gelatin for gut-healing benefits (over time); and the ginger and fennel are known to sooth the stomach in real-time.

How to make stomach-calming digestive gummies

I think you’ll love how easy it is to make these gummies.

You’ll start with making a tea with fennel seeds and dried ginger root.

Ginger fennel tea steeping in a glass jar.

Note: You could use tea bags with these same ingredients, but you will need to use several to get the same benefit.

Choose quality organic herbs for best results.

After steeping and straining the tea, you’ll add honey (local, raw honey is great) and some beef gelatin.

You’ll notice this recipe is not very sweet. Be sure to taste the mixture and if you want sweeter gummies, just add more honey.

(When using raw local honey, you can feel a little better about making it sweeter; it has so many benefits. It’s great for seasonal allergies, too.)

Gelatin gummies after pouring into a silicone mold.

After gelatin is dissolved, you’ll add it to a silicone mold and refrigerate until they are solid.
